You are talking so much!!! You can now verbally express just about everything you want to say. Your adorably expressive language just melts my heart. When you want to show something off, you say, "Guys!!!Guys!!! Look! Watch me!!" You always tell me that you will be done in "two minutes" and that you did something "two times" (usually both in relation to puzzles). You count everything all day long and demand either "milk" or "juice" (very slightly flavored water) constantly. You like being extremely hydrated.
Some favorite phrases are: Gosh!! Oopsy-daisy! Oh, my goodness! Bless You! (you love to bless people and also pretend sneeze so we can bless you) Oh, no! ___ fell down!!!
You are incredibly polite and always say please and thank you. Two notable conversations from this past week perfectly demonstrate your politeness and show what a thoughtless Mommy I am:
Caroline (covering the bottom carseat buckle and whimpering): "Mommy, please don't hurt me!! Mommy, please, please don't hurt me!!"
Me: "Caroline, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I'll be so careful unbuckling you."
(Mommy unbuckles the carseat.)
Caroline (squealing in delight and gleefully kicking legs): "Mommy!!! Thank you!! Thank you!!! Thank you for not hurting me!!! Thank you!!! I'm so glad you did not hurt me!!! (Showering Mommy with kisses and hugs while Mommy's heart slightly breaks.)
Caroline: "Thank you Mommy!!! Thank you for feeding me!!! I was so hungry!!! Thank you for giving me food!!!" (Comment made at 9:45 a.m. after eating a banana muffin, peach, and a glass of milk at 8:30 a.m.)
When you want something, you tell me, "I would like to try this, please." This works for just about everything: food, song choices, shopping carts (you would "like to try" the giant plastic car variety, but have only succeeded in convincing Daddy).
Last month, I told you we were making rice for dinner and asked you what we needed. You got out the bag of rice from the pantry, measuring cup from the drawer, and pot from the cabinet. You then told me I needed to scoop in the rice, add water, "make it hot and stir". We eat a lot of rice.
After lots of trips to the pool and beach this summer, you no longer hate the water. As a matter of fact, just this past weekend, I promoted you from full life jacket to the arm-band foam floaties that wrap around the chest. By the end of the evening, you were happily paddling about the pool independently.
Daddy lets you watch action movies with him when I go out and about. Therefore, your favorite television include "bad guys" and go "Pow! Pop!!" You also like "bom, bum, bum." Which refers to the opening credits of Star Trek. Once, you were really little, I left the room during a sword scene in Game of Thrones. You gave me a recap: "Swish, swish, pop! Fall down."
You call all action heroes "Roars" and monkeys "Ooo Oo Ee A Ooo Monkeys".
You would love to watch a Disney Princess show, but so far the only full-length Disney movie you have seen is Cinderella (the new live-action we saw in the theater). Later this month, I am taking you to see Frozen at the Fox. As special treats for big-girl activities (such as "practicing" your violin), I let you pick and watch one Disney music video from You Tube (i.e. Part of Your World, Bear Necessities, A Whole New World, Let It Go). You would much rather play with your toys than watch T.V., so I figure this is a good compromise.
You have LOVED having children your size in class. You call them "babies" and can't quite wrap your head around the fact that most of the new two-year-olds are actually older than you. You like to help them get in line, put their lunch box and book bags away. You pick them up, put them in their chairs, and tuck them under the table. You put on their shoes, open their snacks, push them on the swing, help them complete their puzzles, and give them lots and lots of love. You love them SOOO much, and we have worked all summer on teaching you that the best way to help new children is by letting them do things themselves.
I love you so much big girl, and I have had so much fun with you this summer!! I look forward to two more weeks of fun with you before school starts.
